For more than 30 years, the Milburn Stone Theatre has developed, produced, and presented high-quality, accessible community theatre for audiences across Cecil County, Maryland, and the greater tri-state region.

Now, with the support of generous donors like you, we have an exciting opportunity to enhance the patron experience through new seating, a refreshed auditorium, improved lighting, and upgraded lobby, concessions, and restroom amenities.

PROJECT GOALS

Our Seat Campaign and Patron Experience Restoration Project is ambitious — but absolutely achievable with the support of our community. Our goal is to transform the patron experience and elevate the Milburn Stone Theatre to a modern, welcoming, and inspiring home for the arts. This project will allow us to do the following:

New Theatre Seating

After more than 30 years of use, our red crushed-velvet seats (installed in 1991) will be replaced with a modern, comfortable, and visually striking design. The new Shire Delft blue seats with Cherry-Versailles wood accents offer greater comfort, improved durability, and increased width (21–22 inches—2–4 inches wider than our current seats), along with enhanced lumbar support to ensure a more enjoyable patron experience.

A Refreshed & Cohesive Interior

The entire house—from floor to catwalk—will receive a sleek, contemporary, and updated finish that complements our lobby’s updated aesthetic, creating a seamless visual transition for patrons. The existing carpet will be replaced with a more durable, textured flooring designed for high-traffic use and long-term wear.

Improved Seat & Aisle Lighting

Our aging rope floor lighting will be replaced with modern aisle-mounted lighting on seat ends, increasing both safety and visibility. This updated system is easier to maintain and ensures well-lit aisles for years to come.

Renovated Concessions Kitchen

A redesigned kitchen layout and upgraded appliances will allow our team to better serve patrons before performances and during intermission—reducing wait times and improving the overall hospitality experience.

Updated & Enhanced Lobby Experience

The lobby will receive thoughtful improvements to both aesthetics and comfort, including refreshed support columns, updated flooring, and the addition of seven new lobby benches that match the space’s design. This creates a more welcoming and relaxing environment before the show, during intermission, and after curtain call.

Modernized Restroom Amenities

We will replace our current bathroom sinks with new models designed to prevent excess water retention and overflow. These upgrades will provide a cleaner, more efficient, and more pleasant experience for all guests.

For Aisle seats, please add an additional $150 to your seat total

(As an example, Seat D 101 would be $1,000 and D 102 would be $850)

In addition, All gifts of over $250 will be invited to a special one-night-only "Opening Night" Concert, dedication ceremony & Reception as we celebrate our newly renovated space (Date T.B.A., Summer '26)
