The Audio & Lighting Technician has the responsibility for the audio & lighting operations of the theatre, necessary maintenance to equipment, handling replacements and repairs, as well as acting as designer on select in house productions as well as rentals throughout the season. They assist with load in and set up of all community partner events and helps to maintain the cleanliness and organization of the theatre and its storage areas. Due to the need of interaction with students, employees, and the college community this position requires in person presence.

 

The Audio & Lighting Technician reports to the Director of Milburn Stone Theatre.

Responsibilities:

  • Familiar with each script in the upcoming season

  • Operates, maintains, and safeguards the technical assets of the theatre, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment

  • In collaboration with the Director, implements scheduled replacement and emergency replacement of equipment within budgetary restraints

  • In collaboration with the Artistic Director & Director interviews and supervises: Lighting Designers, Master Electricians, Audio Engineers, as needed for each production, including community partner events

  • Interviews and makes final decision on rental contractors if community partners provide their own Lighting Designers and/or Audio Engineers

  • Advises the Lighting Designers & Audio Engineers on the technical specifications, usage of technical equipment required for the individual show. Reviews, approves, and assists in implementation of final designs

  • In collaboration with the Director & Artistic Director, asses the audio and lighting needs and responsibilities for each community partner company

  • In collaboration with the Scenic Manager and Stage & Rigging Forman maintains the inventory of all theatre stock including proper storage, cleaning, and replacement

  • Acts in a designer position on all community partner events and can hold designer positions on in house productions

  • Assess supply needs and completes purchases in collaboration with the Director

  • Assists in training, assignments, and supervision of Run Crew for individual shows

  • Assists in set construction as needed

  • Communicates regularly and clearly with the Director

  • Maintains the safety and cleanliness of all workspaces

  • Enforces safe work habits in all workplaces

  • Drives company vehicles as well as rentals when needed

  • Makes repairs during the run of the show as needed

  • Assists with the training and instruction of Production Assistants

  • Assists in training, assignments, and supervision of Run Crew for individual shows

  • Assigns appropriate tasks to the production assistants and supervises them

  • When requested, will attend production meetings and tech rehearsals in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of mounting the show

  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required

  • Experience in one of the following areas: Audio Engineer, Master Electrician, and/or Light Design

  • Preferred:  Master's Degree in related field

THEATRE ASSISTANT

The Theatre Assistant maintains regular Box Office hours to process online, phone and walk-up ticket orders and ticket exchanges. They become familiar with the administrative and back-end management of the Audience. View ticketing system and demonstrate skills in processing all sales in an efficient manner. Theatre Assistants will also help with the overall organization and set up of the theatre for productions and events. The Theatre Assistant reports directly to the Managing Director of Milburn Stone Theatre.

This position works on an as needed schedule. Shifts will be posted on the scheduling site, and employees can pick up shifts if they are available to work them. Shifts will be posted monthly, with some shifts being added if business demands it. Shifts will be posted with information about the type of work that will be required during the shift.

Required to work a minimum of 5 shifts in each quarter, dependent on start date (July – September, October – December, January – March, & April – June), but may not work over 29 hours in a single week (Saturday – Friday). Individuals who are not able to work a minimum of 5 shifts each quarter, will no longer be considered active, which may lead to separation of employment status. The Director of the Milburn Stone Theatre or their designee may review and adjust the amount of shifts each quarter based upon the needs of the MST and inform employees of any changes.

Due to the interaction with students, employees and the college community this position requires in-person presence.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Processes in-person, online and telephone ticket orders using the ticketing system

  • Provides excellent customer service

  • Uses cash register and responsible for closing out at end of shift

  • Required to work weekend and evening performances when applicable

  • Assists patrons and outside rentals with a professional, positive and friendly demeanor

  • General office duties (including, but not limited to filing, copying, preparing mailings, etc.)

  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Oversees concession set up and replenishment

  • Organizes and trains volunteer ushers for in-house productions and rentals

  • Maintains lobby aesthetics

  • Provides administrative assistance to the Director & Artistic Director

  • Assist in the Theatre House & Theatre Shop with organization and clean up

  • Assist in preparation with upcoming Productions and Rentals which can include: Hanging Lights, Painting, House Clean Up, Backstage Clean Up, etc. Any specialized work will be overseen and training will be provided by the Technical Director or Assistant Technical Director

  • Performs other related work as required
     

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma Required. Associates Degree preferred.

  • At least 1 year of general office experience required; preference given to individuals that have previously worked or volunteered in a theatre environment.

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as outstanding interpersonal, time management, and customer service skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

The Production Assistant assists and supports all production and artistic operation functions. The Production Assistants are based in the theatre and the workshop, assisting with stock management, building, equipment maintenance and production logistics. This position may include nights and weekends. The Production Assistant reports directly to the Technical Director.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Constructs scenery according to drawings & diagrams. This includes: cutting, shaping, carving, assembly and other carpentry skills.

  • Works with basic hand tools, power tools, and adhesives.

  • Paints scenery following instruction and techniques.

  • Ability to lift and move 30 pounds (unassisted), and 50 pounds (assisted).

  • Works with Technical Director and Assistant Technical Director to learn other aspects of theatre including but not limited to: fly rail, lighting, focus, sound, master electrician duties, etc.

  • Works as run crew on Milburn Stone Theatre productions and rentals as assigned and scheduled

  • Assists in organization and cleanup of Work Shop, Green Room, Costume Shop, and Storage Facility, including assisting with keeping track of inventory of supplies.

  • Maintains a safe, healthy, and clean work environment.

  • Must be available a minimum of 15 hours a week.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma Required

  • Preferred: Associates Degree in related field

  • Preferred: Experience in one any of the following: Audio Engineering, Master Electrician, Light Designing, and/or Set Designing

  • Ability to lift and move 30 pounds (unassisted), and 50 pounds (assisted).

  • Position requires nights and weekends as determined by supervisor and/or designee.
