The Milburn Stone Theatre is now accepting applications for production staff positions for the 2026–2027 season. Below you will find the job responsibilities for each contracted role available per production. Compensation varies by position and show. For details on stipends, please refer to the information provided in the application.

Director
Stipend: $750
Open for: Rocky, A Christmas Carol, Jagged Little Pill
​
• Responsible to the Artistic Director, Theatre Director, and the in-house production design team (Scenic Designer, Audio & Lighting Technician, Stage & Rigging Foreperson) of the Milburn Stone Theatre.
• Expected to attend and audit all auditions and callbacks.
• Expected to be on time and prepared for all rehearsals.
• Responsible for running all blocking rehearsals and run-throughs and attending any rehearsal requested by other production staff members.
• Expected to attend all tech week rehearsals and all scheduled production meetings.
• Responsible for maintaining open communication with Milburn Stone Theatre staff and all production staff.
• Responsible for creating and maintaining a rehearsal schedule in collaboration with the Music Director, Choreographer, and Stage Manager.
Note: If selected for an interview, Directors will be required to complete a questionnaire and more in-depth vision statement for the production.

Music Director
Stipend: $600 – $950
One Weekend Play: $500 | Two Weekend Musical: $800 - $950
Open for: Rocky, The Rocky Horror Show, A Christmas Carol, Shakespeare in Love, Frozen, Jagged Little Pill, Sunset Boulevard
• Responsible to the Artistic Director, Theatre Director, and the in-house production design team of the Milburn Stone Theatre.
• Expected to attend and audit all auditions and callbacks.
• Expected to be on time and prepared for all rehearsals.
• Responsible for running all music rehearsals, accompanying run-throughs, and attending any rehearsal when requested by other production staff members.
• Responsible for running tracks or playing in/conducting the pit for all tech week rehearsals and performances.
• Expected to attend all scheduled production meetings.
• Collaborates with the Choreographer to ensure that tracks used in rehearsals match the performance plan.
• When required, responsible for assembling an orchestra or pit band in coordination with the Milburn Stone Theatre and within the provided budget. Names and contact information for assembled members must be provided to the Theatre Director.
• Responsible for arranging their own substitute if unable to accompany a rehearsal.

Choreographer
Stipend: $600

• Responsible to the Artistic Director, Theatre Director, and the in-house production design team of the Milburn Stone Theatre.
• Asked to attend and audit all auditions; expected to attend all dance calls and callbacks.
• Expected to be on time and prepared for all rehearsals.
• Responsible for running all dance rehearsals, attending all run-throughs, and attending any rehearsal when requested by other production staff members.
• Expected to attend all tech week rehearsals and all scheduled production meetings.
• Responsible for designating a Dance Captain from within the cast when deemed necessary, in coordination with the Director, Music Director, and Stage Manager.

Stage Manager
Stipend: $500 – $850
One Weekend Play: $500 | Two Weekend Musical: $750
Open for: Rocky, The Rocky Horror Show, A Christmas Carol, Shakespeare in Love, Frozen, Jagged Little Pill, Sunset Boulevard
• Responsible to the Artistic Director, Theatre Director, and the in-house production design team of the Milburn Stone Theatre.
• Responsible for attending all rehearsals and assisting in rehearsal operations, including setting up the stage, tracking cast attendance, creating the prompt book, recording the director's blocking, managing cast and crew, and calling breaks.
• Responsible for creating and continually updating the properties list in collaboration with the production staff throughout the rehearsal process.
• Responsible for maintaining the show page on Virtual Callboard, including updating rehearsals and filing timely rehearsal and performance reports.
• Responsible for running the entire show from the beginning of tech week through closing night, including calling all cues to run crew and spotlight operators.
• Responsible for attending cueing, running cue-to-cue, operating the light board, and calling all technical cues from cue-to-cue through the end of the production.
• Responsible for securing the facility at the close of each rehearsal and performance.
• Responsible for all necessary paperwork and expected to attend all scheduled production meetings.

Fight Director
Stipend: $450
Open for: Rocky, Shakespeare in Love
• Responsible to the Managing Director and Artistic Director of the Milburn Stone Theatre.
• Review the script in advance to identify all moments involving staged combat, violence, or physical conflict (sword fights, hand-to-hand combat, falls, weapon handling, etc.) and assess potential safety risks.
• Choreograph all fight sequences with clear, repeatable movements to ensure performer safety, dramatic clarity, and consistency across the run of the production.
• Collaborate with the Director and Choreographer to ensure fight choreography serves the artistic vision of the production.
• Conduct fight calls at the start of each relevant rehearsal and prior to every performance to maintain safety and consistency.
• Educate cast members on safe weapon handling, physical technique, and the importance of never deviating from choreographed sequences without authorization.
• Serve as a safety advocate, with the authority to pause or halt any rehearsal or performance sequence if a safety concern arises.
• Communicate all fight choreography and safety protocols clearly to the Stage Manager for documentation in the prompt book.
• Responsible for running any rehearsals where the Fight Director is scheduled and attending any rehearsal when requested by other production staff members.
• Expected to be on time and prepared for all rehearsals and to attend all scheduled production meetings.
• Responsible for sourcing, maintaining, and safely storing all weapons and combat props used in the production, in coordination with the Props Manager.

Intimacy Director
Stipend: $450
Open for: The Rocky Horror Show, Shakespeare in Love, Sunset Boulevard
• Responsible to the Managing Director and Artistic Director of the Milburn Stone Theatre.
• Review the script in advance to identify moments involving intimacy (kissing, simulated sex, physical closeness, nudity, sexual content, or sensitive themes) and assess potential risks.
• Facilitate confidential one-on-one conversations with actors to define personal boundaries, comfort levels, and consent regarding physical and emotional content — including the use of intimacy riders to document agreed-upon parameters.
• Choreograph intimate scenes (kisses, embraces, simulated intimacy, etc.) with clear, repeatable movements to ensure safety, clarity, and consistency.
• Collaborate with the Director and Choreographer to balance artistic vision with actor safety and communicate protocols clearly to stage management.
• Educate the cast and production team on consent practices, including the right to pause, renegotiate, or withdraw consent at any time without penalty.
• Serve as an advocate for performers, monitoring for signs of discomfort or distress and pausing rehearsal or production when necessary.
• Ensure closed rehearsal protocols are followed during sensitive scenes, limiting those present to essential personnel only.
• Guide actors through physical and emotional warm-ups and cool-downs before and after intimate scenes.
• Responsible for running any rehearsals where the Intimacy Director is scheduled and attending any rehearsal when requested by other production staff members.
• Expected to be on time and prepared for all rehearsals and to attend all scheduled production meetings.
• Stay current with industry standards and best practices in intimacy coordination.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all performer conversations and boundary agreements.

Costume Designer
Stipend: $350 – $600
Stipend based on cast size and number of costumes required. Open for: Rocky, The Rocky Horror Show, A Christmas Carol, Shakespeare in Love, Frozen, Jagged Little Pill, Sunset Boulevard
• Responsible to the Artistic Director and Theatre Director of the Milburn Stone Theatre.
• Expected to work within the scope of time, budget, and personnel available.
• Responsible for collaborating with the production staff in the creation of a design.
• Responsible for research, costume renderings, fittings, rental packages, final show pieces, construction, purchasing, adjustment, and/or pulling of costumes for the production.
• Required to attend all production meetings and one run-through before the final production meeting.
• Required to lead costume strike within 72 hours of closing.

Time Commitment: 1–2 visits to the space before tech week; three production meetings (via Microsoft Teams or In Person); Costume Fittings; Dress Rehearsal(s); Tech Sunday; 3–4 days of tech week.

Props Manager
Stipend: $300 – $500
Stipend based on the number of props and labor required. Open for: Rocky, The Rocky Horror Show, A Christmas Carol, Shakespeare in Love, Frozen, Jagged Little Pill, Sunset Boulevard
• Responsible to the Artistic Director and Theatre Director of the Milburn Stone Theatre.
• Expected to work within the scope of time, budget, and personnel available.
• Responsible for collaborating with the production staff in the creation of a design.
• Responsible for all hand and costume props, including handheld magic needed for the production, unless otherwise stated.
• Expected to first work with the existing inventory. Any rental or purchase of additional items must be submitted in writing to the Production Manager and approved by MST.
• All on-site construction or creation of prop elements must be coordinated with the in-house production design team.
• Required to attend all production meetings and one run-through before the final production meeting.
• Responsible for providing rehearsal props as noted in rehearsal reports or meeting notes.
• Required to strike props within 72 hours of closing.

Time Commitment: 1–5 visits to the space/storage facility; three production meetings (via Microsoft Teams or In Person); Tech Sunday; 2–4 days of tech week.

Audio Engineer
Stipend: $500 – $750
One Weekend Play: $500 | Two Weekend Musical: $750
Open for: Rocky, The Rocky Horror Show, A Christmas Carol, Shakespeare in Love, Frozen, Jagged Little Pill, Sunset Boulevard
• Responsible to the Artistic Director and Theatre Director of the Milburn Stone Theatre.
• Expected to work within the scope of time, budget, and personnel available.
• Expected to work with existing audio equipment. Any request for rental or purchase of additional equipment must be submitted in writing to the Production Manager and approved by MST staff.
• Responsible for collaborating with the production staff in the creation of a design.
• Responsible for the successful execution of the audio design, including operating the sound board, creating the live mix of the show, and maintaining the final design through closing performance.
• Responsible for the design, supervision, and plotting of sound effects.
• Responsible for supervising all sound equipment in the house and onstage used during the production.
• Required to attend all production meetings and one run-through before the final production meeting.
• Required to lead audio strike and restore all audio equipment within 72 hours of closing.

Time Commitment: 1–2 visits to review technical needs; three production meetings (via Microsoft Teams or In Person); Tech Sunday; all days of tech week and every scheduled performance.

Lighting Designer
Stipend: $700
Open for: Rocky, The Rocky Horror Show, A Christmas Carol, Shakespeare in Love, Frozen, Jagged Little Pill, Sunset Boulevard
• Responsible to the Artistic Director and Theatre Director of the Milburn Stone Theatre.
• Expected to work within the scope of time, budget, and personnel available.
• Responsible for collaborating with the production staff in the creation of a design.
• Expected to work with existing lighting equipment. Any request for rental or purchase of additional equipment must be submitted in writing to the Production Manager and approved by MST staff.
• Required to attend all production meetings and one run-through before the final production meeting.
• Expected to attend all tech week rehearsals and may provide technical notes during the designated time.
• Responsible for providing a full light plot to scale (no smaller than ¼" = 1') showing type, color, and position for all necessary instruments, along with all associated paperwork.
• Responsible for being present and supervising the focus of lighting equipment and the setting of all light cues.
• Responsible for having lights in a workable condition by the end of cue-to-cue, and for providing the Stage Manager and Technical Director with all necessary information for show maintenance.

Time Commitment: 1–2 visits before hang/focus/programming; three production meetings (via Microsoft Teams or In Person); Lighting Hang; Lighting Focus; Tech Sunday; 3–4 days of tech week.

Scenic Designer
Stipend: $450 - $600
Open for: Rocky, The Rocky Horror Show, A Christmas Carol, Shakespeare in Love, Frozen, Jagged Little Pill, Sunset Boulevard
• Responsible to the Artistic Director and Theatre Director of the Milburn Stone Theatre.
• Expected to follow the Production Calendar as set by the in-house production design team in coordination with the Artistic Director and Theatre Director.
• Expected to work within the scope of time, budget, and personnel available.
• Expected to work with existing shop and paint tools. Any rental or purchase of additional equipment must be submitted in writing to the in-house production design team and approved by the Theatre Director.
• Expected to coordinate with the in-house production design team to schedule visits, address questions, and assist with set build and completion. Designers must schedule visits in advance and make at least one visit per week leading up to tech week, beginning the week prior to set build.
• Responsible for providing all information necessary for the successful completion of the design, which may include a ground plan, section, paint elevations, and a scale set model (physical or digital). Working drawings will be supplied if required by the in-house production design team.
• All set work must be complete one week prior to opening. Touch-ups may be completed during tech week and between performances.
Time Commitment: 2–5 visits during the build/design process; three production meetings (via Microsoft Teams or In Person); 1–2 visits during tech week.
